Jacob Kenneth “Ken” Gregg, 73, of Coal Center, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. A son of the late Jacob and Harriett Culler Gregg, he was born March 25, 1939, in Long Branch. Ken was a member of the Howe Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 801 in Roscoe. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, where he worked as a recorder. Those who knew Ken will always remember how much he loved to talk and take trips to Wheeling Island, watch baseball and go out to eat. For many years he coached Pony League and Little League teams in Roscoe. Two little known pastimes of Ken’s were spitting watermelon seeds with his grandson and having his granddaughter cut his hair. But his biggest pleasure came when he got to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memories is his loving family, daughters, Melissa Boothe and husband, James, of Coal Center, and Kellie Gregg, of Coal Center; grandchildren, Joshua and Kayla Boothe; siblings, Doris Winnett, Glenda Gottheld and husband, Dan, Donna Corrick and Jim Gregg and wife, Toni; special cousin, Gary Gregg and wife, Carol; special friend, Judy Barber; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Jacobs Gregg (May 11, 2004); a son, Jay Kenneth Gregg (1992); and brothers, Harry “Popeye” Gregg and Warren “Hick” Gregg. Arrangements are being handled by Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center.
